Why I Started This Blog
When I entered my mid-40s, something shifted in my body that I hadn’t expected — and nobody around me seemed able to explain it clearly. I was eating carefully, staying active, and doing many of the same things that had always worked for me. My body changed anyway. Weight began accumulating around my middle in a way it never had before, my sleep became lighter and more fragmented, my energy stopped bouncing back after rest, and for the first time in my life, my blood pressure started creeping upward.
The advice I heard was always the same: eat less, move more, try harder. So I tried harder. But the harder I pushed, the more I realized that generic weight loss advice wasn’t built for what was actually happening in my body. What I needed was a better explanation — one that started with the hormonal reality of midlife, not the assumption that a woman’s body should respond at 45 the way it did at 35. That search is what eventually led me to create losefatafter40now.com.
My Research Journey
For more than seven years, I have studied menopause, metabolism, sleep, cortisol, and healthy aging research for women over 40. I spent years reading research from endocrinology, menopause medicine, metabolic health, and healthy aging literature focused specifically on women in midlife.
That kind of reading isn’t something I stumbled into casually. I hold a Master’s degree in Education, with doctoral coursework completed at the University of Texas at Austin, and that training shaped how I approach research now — evaluating study design, checking sample sizes, and looking past headlines to what the data actually shows.
I wanted to understand why women often gain belly fat after 40, why sleep becomes more fragile in midlife, why stress affects the body differently after 40, and why diet strategies that used to work often stop working. Over time, I began testing research-backed changes in my own life, one variable at a time — hormone-supportive nutrition, strategic strength training, sleep quality, blood sugar stability, and cortisol management.
What I found was more specific and more hopeful than the advice I’d been given. By changing the strategy instead of simply trying harder, I was able to normalize my blood pressure, restore steadier energy, improve my sleep, and significantly reduce the visceral belly fat that had accumulated during midlife — without extreme restriction, punishing workouts, or chasing perfection. Since then, I’ve continued following emerging research on menopause, metabolism, sleep, inflammation, and strength training for women over 40, and translating what I learn into practical strategies for everyday life.

What This Blog Is
losefatafter40now.com was created for women over 40 who feel like they’re doing everything right but still not seeing the results they expect. This isn’t a site built around quick fixes, extreme diets, or unrealistic fitness rules. I believe that understanding why something works makes it easier to stay consistent. That’s why I write in plain language and focus on habits that are realistic, repeatable, and sustainable.
